Mace comes from a small evergreen, usually not more than 40 feet in height, which grow on the Banda Islands. The fruits are smooth and yellow and resemble a pear grooved by a long furrow and contain a single erect seed about 1 1/4 inch long. The nucleus of this is nutmeg, and the fleshy, irregular scarlet covering (yellow-orange when dried) is mace.
Both Mace and Nutmeg help with digestion, but too much may cause over-excitement.
