Origin: Peru

Form: Resin pieces

Other names: Peruvian Myrrh

Esoteric Uses: Purification, scrying of images, calming of emotions

Esoteric Associations: Moon, Water

Incense Aroma: Very similar to Myrrh and Opoponax, but without the latex background. Very calm, relaxing and full, with a touch of mellon or cherry. It burns just like Myrrh and Opoponax - it smoulders and chars rather than melts.

This resin is a bit of a mystery for us. It comes directly from Peru, where it is called Peruvian Myrrh (or Myrrha) and they give the botanical name Commiphora Myrrha. Others say that this is Styrax Weberbaueri, a distant relative of the Myrrh from Africa that now grows in Peru. It does smell somewhat like the various Myrrhs from the Middle East and Africa, and it burns in a similar fashion to those Myrrhs, but the color and shape of the pieces are totally different. We will continue to look for more information on this intriguing and wonderful resin.
