Horus, the Falcon God who is Lord of the Sky, is the son of Isis and Osiris. His name, "Hor" or "Har" in Egyptian, is often translated as "The High" or "The Far-off" and is an apt representation of Horus in his Falcon form, soaring high in the sky near the Sun, with a keen and penetrating vision.
Horus in his main role is representative of the King on earth, or the Living Pharaoh who sits on the Throne of his Mother, Isis whose name Aset means "throne" in Egyptian. When the Pharaoh dies and makes his underworld journey, he then becomes Osiris.
Horus is a complicated God with a long history which dates back to Pre-Dynastic times. Some of the earliest representation figures found in Egypt are of the Falcon-God. He has hundreds of aspects that are usually combinations of himself with other Gods. When he is combined with the great Solar God Ra he becomes Ra-Horakhty (Ra Hoor Khuit) signifying the power and domination of the King. Another important aspect of Horus is Harpokrates (Hoor Paar Kraat) where is shown as a young silent child, either suckling from the breast of his mother Isis, or standing with a finger to his mouth.
